Meditation Psalm 2a

He rebukes them in his anger
and terrifies them in his wrath, saying,
‘I have installed my king
on Zion, my holy mountain.’

I will proclaim the Lord’s decree:

He said to me, ‘You are my son;
today I have become your father.
Ask me,
and I will make the nations your inheritance,
the ends of the earth your possession.
You will break them with a rod of iron;
you will dash them to pieces like pottery.’

Therefore, you kings, be wise;
be warned, you rulers of the earth.
Serve the Lord with fear
and celebrate his rule with trembling.
Kiss his son, or he will be angry
and your way will lead to your destruction,
for his wrath can flare up in a moment.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

(Ps. 2:5-12 NIV)

God’s response to human rebellion is to proclaim his Son, Jesus Christ and
anoint Him as the true ruler over the nations. In a coming day Christ will put
down all rule and restore all things. To kiss the Son is to embrace the salvation
that He offers. When we have Christ as our Saviour, we have assurance that
no matter what happens to us, we are safe and secure in Christ. There is no
refuge from Christ, only refuge in Christ.

Prayer
Lord the answer to strife, confusion and distress is your Son, Jesus Christ.
Christ will surely come and break brokenness, kill death, destroy destruction
and swallow every sorrow. Help us to place our trust in You. We believe You
are our place of refuge but help us in our unbelief. Christ is our present and
our future. You are our shield and our defender.
Lord be with the NHS, especially we pray for those from our congregation who
work in the health sector, Lord have mercy and protect them from all harm, for
we pray in the name of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
