Meditation Psalm 2

Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?
The kings of the earth rise up
    and the rulers band together
against the Lord and against his anointed, saying,
‘Let us break their chains
    and throw off their shackles.’

The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
    the Lord scoffs at them.

(Ps. 2:1-4 NIV)

Many in our world today plot against the church and persecute God’s people.
They treat the name of God and the name of our Saviour with disdain. They
boast of who they are and what they can accomplish. Yet we see how the
whole world can be reduced in a matter of days. Our God is enthroned in
heaven. Within the living memory of some in our congregation this nation
would have called for a time of national prayer. Markets may tumble, the
economy may grind to a halt, but God is still enthroned in Heaven. Let us turn
to God to seek the deliverance of our nation and our world.

Prayer
Lord God enthroned in heaven we look to our God; we turn to you because
only you have the words of salvation. In this hour of great need turn your face
towards us and do us good. We repent that as a nation we have turned away
from you. Turn the hearts of your people back to you as we cry out together
for deliverance. Keep our congregation safe. We pray especially for those who
work in the Health Service. As they work to help those who are ill may they be
spared from all illness. We thank you that our hope is in our Saviour, help us
to draw courage from our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, in whose name
we pray. Amen
