Meditation Psalm 1

Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither –
whatever they do prospers.

Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

(Ps. 1:1-6 NIV)

Psalm One sets the scene for the rest of the Psalms. The law of the Lord is
everything that is written in the Bible. We meditate upon the Scriptures so
that we can understand all the implications of the Word of for every part of
our lives, and to come to delight in God’s will. Not just to surrender to God’s
will but to learn to love what God commands.
God’s will is an anchor that secures us in our time of need. We are like a tree
planted by streams of water – fruitful in season and never fading.

Prayer
Lord God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Lord of the Word, don’t let my heart fail
or be seduced by this present world. Help me not to drift along with the crowd
or become hardened by cynicism. Give me stability and contentment
regardless of the circumstances I see around me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
